Curve Exclusive: I AM EVE’s ‘Red And Black’

The sensual singer turns her fairytale dream into reality.

It’s been an incredible year for IAMEVE. The singer-songwriter was featured in the Advocate‘s Reasons for Pride 2013, played her music in the Pride Parade in NYC and today she debut’s her latest song “Red and Black, from her upcoming fairytale-like album The Everything Nothing—debuting in August . But her fairytale doesn’t end there. Her sensual, haunting vocals are also being featured in the upcoming film Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters.

Where did you get the inspiration for this track?

The inspiration for “Red and Black” came from a wild dream I had with fire, snakes and drums. I kept hearing the chorus chant over and over again and became obsessed with turning it into a song. Later I found out it was connected to an old folk rhyme to tell venomous and non-venomous snakes apart, which was so in sync with the story. In the previous sequences, Eve had let go of anything “poisonous” to her soul. “Red and Black” is essentially a song to keep out the dark and call in the love.

Can you tell us about your new project with the new film Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters?

I sang the lead voice representing Thalia in the film score for Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters.  Working with Andrew Lockington and everyone on the team was an incredible experience!  Andrew and I also wrote an original song for the movie called “To Feel Alive” for the end credits. It’s produced by Brian Liesgang (Filter, NIN, Smashing Pumpkins) and Cory Enemy (Ellie Goulding, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga) and is being released on Sony with the film score in August! I wanted to capture the essence of Thalia as she awoke after many years of being asleep. I’m really excited about the song and can’t wait to see it in the theater!

What do you want people to know about your newest album debuting in August?

The Everything Nothing to me is like a fairytale album. I’m excited to see everything coming to life. We are releasing the album in pieces with singles, videos and artwork, so it’s fun seeing how and when it all comes together. It’s like a monster puzzle. I never know quite where it begins or ends, but I’m enjoying the ride. The ultimate dream is to create a spiritual, sci-fi inspired musical vessel that transports people to another world! I’ve always been a fanatic for fairytales and fantasy works like Game of Thrones, Wheel of Time, Dune, Mists of Avalon, Lord of the Rings, and Star Wars.

This story explores the cycle of birth and death on repeat. Ultimately, its about a woman who finds her personal power and after learning to love herself, finds her soulmate and lover. I feel like it touches upon Ancient, Modern, and Futuristic pieces of existence, exploring ideas like karma, multi-dimensions, and time travel. Each song has its own little story and world.

Is there anything else you’d like to tell our readers about this track, or about your new album?

Overall I’m just thrilled to see everything come together and to get the music out into the world The first part of The Everything Nothing  comes out next month and I’m off to the premiere of Percy Jackson Sea Monsters this week. On top of that I’ve got live dates coming up. It’s just a fantastic and busy time and I’m excited seeing everything come to life!
