Saara Aalto: Would You Marry Me?

The X Factor star proposes to her fiancƒÂ©e again as same-sex marriage is legalised in Finland.

X Factor runner up Saara Aalto and her fiancée and manager Meri Sopanen have been engaged since last summer, but now they can finally get legally married in their home country.

To celebrate the legalisation of same-sex marriage in Finland, the pop singer tweeted:

“Same sex marriage is legal in Finland today!!!  would you marry me ‪@MeriSopanen?”

The pair met when Meri messaged Saara through Facebook and complimented her on her singing talents after she had performed on the Finnish version of The Voice.

Saara spilled the beans to DIVA when she was on our cover back in January:

“She wrote, ‘I have never ever sent a message like this to anybody, but I just had this intuition that I have to send this to you’. I was like, ‘That’s so cute’ and thought, ‘What a nice looking girl’.”

One year later Saara and Meri met face to face at one of Saara’s concerts:

“We started talking and realised we just shared the same view of life and everything.”

The proposal was a heartwarmingly low-key affair, as the pop star told OK magazine:

'I washed off my make-up, put on my pyjamas and sat on the sofa. She just said: "Oh, we had a lovely day…" Then: "Will you marry me?"'

The lovebirds are planning to wed in 2018.

Since coming second in the latest series of X Factor, the talented songstress has signed a five-album deal with Sony Music UK and Sony Music Finland.

Saara is performing an exclusive set at the DIVA 250 Awards Party. So is DIVA fave Heather Peace and The L Word’s Rachel Shelley is hosting the festivities. If you haven’t already, you can get your ticket here.
