Demi Lovato opens up about eating disorders, swimsuit selfies and her journey to self love

Demi Lovato recently sat down for a chinwag with the ultimate chat show host, Ellen DeGeneres.

The pop singer, who has previously opened up about her struggles with eating disorders, spoke inspiringly about her ongoing journey towards self-acceptance.

She told Ellen:

“I’ve been working on myself for the past year, more so than I’ve ever worked on myself. I’ve surrendered to the process of just learning to love yourself and I think it shows through my pictures.”

She went on to describe how she now shares more revealing photos on her social media accounts, including snaps of her larking about in her fabulous collection of swimsuits.

Ellen told Demi she’d noticed a difference in the attitude behind her recent posts, observing, “There’s a confidence there that I have not seen in a while.”

“I post more bathing suit pictures online,” explained Demi. “I want to show my fans that it’s possible, that they can get to that self love too.”

Demi talked about one specific photo that she chose to put on Instagram, even though she wasn’t crazy about the way her legs looked in the shot. (FYI Demi, you look bloomin’ gorgeous and I’m a big fan of both your one-piece and your private island.)

“I decided to post it anyways. I thought, ‘It’s me, it’s who I am and I love my body. So I’m just going to post it.’ I’ve taken away the power from the negative comments and the haters by not listening to them.”

She admitted that now when she does see comments from online trolls, she just pities them.

“If I do see [that negativity], I just feel sorry for them because who leaves a negative comment on somebody’s profile on the internet? You have to be kind of sad to do that so I’ve taken away the power and it feels great. I posted it because I look so happy.”

While she was in The Ellen Show studio, Demi also treated us to an amazing rendition of her brand new single, Tell Me You Love Me.
