Fresh Licks: CSS’s œHits Me Like a Rock

Brazilian art-ravers CSS are back with the new video for “Hits Me Like a Rock,” dancing their way into our hearts yet again with their signature brand of infectious dance pop. According to lead singer Lovefoxxx, “Hits Me Like a Rock,” the first single off of their third studio effort La Liberatión, is an homage to music’s ability to provoke a visceral and unexpectedly emotional response.

CSS is short for Cansei de Ser Sexy, which is Portuguese for “got tired of being sexy,” a quote supposedly attributed to Beyoncé. Tired or not, the São Paulo heartthrobs have been delivering their sexy electro-indie-pop since 2003, when their music—and their punky club-kid aesthetic—began making waves online. Two years later, CSS released their first studio album, also called Cansei de Ser Sexy, to glowing reviews, launching the group out of Brazil’s underground club scene and into the spotlight.

Their latest video is billed as a how-to dance tutorial and even features the undeniably crushworthy five-piece showing off some moves of their own. If learning how to breakdance will get openly-queer guitarist/drummer Luiza da Silva e Sá’s attention, we’re signing up for dance classes stat.
