Queer Web Series: Barbelle

Barbelle

Barbelle is a must-watch web series from Canadian YouTube channel Kinda TV.

You may already know Kinda as the home of much-loved lesbian vampire series Carmilla. Well, it seems like they’ve struck gold again with another gloriously entertaining and queertastic series.

From an all-female team comes a witty new show with a strong, defiantly queer, voice. Behold, Barbelle.

Alice (Gwenlyn Cumyn) and Veronica (Karen Knox) have it all.

They’re mega famous as pop duo Barbelle, their Instagram posts get gazillions of ego-boosting likes and they’re blissfully in love. That is, until Alice decides to call time on their relationship.

Turns out it’s not going to be easy for Alice to remove herself from her situation, as their stonking great record label contract means they still have to churn out another loved-up album and tour together AND they can’t let their adoring fans know their romance is now a fauxmance.

This anti-love story is zeitgeisty and full of zinging one-liners. Its creators describe Barbelle as “a lesbian Spiceworld in Toronto, and a love letter to the Canadian music scene.” I describe it as essential viewing for the sapphic web surfer who has already binged all of Carmilla and needs something new and brilliant to satisfy her queer sweet tooth.

And I’m not the only one who is hooked. The first episode already has over 110k views. Why not check it out for yourself?
