She Rode Horses Like The Stock Exchange

“Leave it to an Australian playwright to find the humour, humanity and farce in the worst American financial disaster since the Great Depression.”\r\n

Prepare yourself for the Australian premiere of Amelia Roper’s biting comedy, She Rode Horses Like the Stock Exchange which will gallop into The Kings Cross Theatre in Sydney from October 20th. Directed by former Belvoir Associate Artist, Nell Ranney, this sublime production is going to hit Sydneysiders like a stampede.

Set in a Connecticut park in 2007, just on the edge of the Global Financial Crisis that saw millions of people made penniless, jobless and homeless, She Rode Horses Like the Stock Exchange interplays the lives of 2 couples as they engage in an absurdly funny and terrifying ride through a crisis they didn’t even know was possible.

US-based, Australian playwright, Amelia Roper’s absurdly funny She Rode Horses Like the Stock Exchange is just what theatrical dreams are made of – it is rich in language, timelessly poignant and unnervingly funny via a dry, smart humour – it is Tina Fey meets Samuel Beckett! Roper’s incredible script poses insightful questions about money, materialism and power through a tender gauze of humanity; it challenges cultural expectations and the simultaneous resentments towards them.

“The play is about humans with human needs and feelings, and what it means to be an imperfect human who likes dogs and ice cream when you are also an adult and responsible for a bank, and collectively, an entire economy,” said Roper.
