Olivia Club Med Cancun—Day Four

Every time I go to my room, I have to pass by the Club Med gym. All hours of the day, whether I’m coming back from eating a huge breakfast, or walking with a happy hour pina colada in my hand, I see the ladies working out. Running on the treadmill, taking an aerobics class, stretching or lifting weights. This morning I walked past back to my room with a plate piled high bacon, home fries, pastries and coffee thick with half and half. I sneered at the girl racing on the stationary bike. After all, I worked out all month to get ready for this trip. I wasn’t about to waste it in the hot little fitness center.

Just as the pool games were about to begin, it started to rain. And then it started to pour. But we’re lesbians, we’re not discouraged by such petty things as weather. We banded together and quickly moved inside for a rousing game of “Name that Tune” hosted by comedian Elvira Kurt.

Soon, the wind and rain really picked up and I decided that was an opportunity to spend a little time in my room and get a little work done.  But really, it was nap weather and that’s what I ended up doing.

Olivia arranged for me to have a book signing of “Lipstick & Dipstick’s Essential Guide to Lesbian Relationships” at the afternoon social hour. Within no time I sold out of all the books I brought and met some really great women.

It was Mexican Fiesta night, which meant we had a special Mexican dinner, complete with a mariachi band, chicken mole, enchiladas, carne asada and a full salsa, guacamole, tortilla chip bar. Yum! A margarita made the meal complete.

I headed over to the evening show with my Lipstick & Dipstick T-shirt on. Because of this, several people wanted their pictures taken with me. It was fun feeling like I was the celebrity.

Every night before the show begins, Olivia cruise director Tisha Floratos comes out to the Olivia theme song, “Beautiful Together.” The first time I heard it, I thought it was pretty corny, but now, three trips later and all the good memories associated with it, I about ready to look for it on iTunes.

Comedian Mimi Gonzalez opened the night as MC, but even so, she had to outdo her show from the other night. All of the comedians seem to be friends with one another. At yesterday’s show Elvira Kurt was making fun of Mimi Gonzalez’s bikini wax, which she inadvertently displayed to us, as part of her comedy routine.  Mimi played off that in her skit today, unveiling her sarong to reveal a fully hairy merkin. Later Gina Yashere, veteran of Last Comic Standing, made her Olivia debut, her British humor going over well with the crowd.
