A four-piece musical riot, ready to rock your patriarchal ears °Å¸Å½Â¶
I remember a time when I was a young, Hayley-Williams-worshipping teen, just how badly I wanted to be in a band…
It would be an all-girl band, of course, with me on vocals (despite the fact that I had the singing talents of an old cat.) All my band mates would have different coloured hair, and would rock sexy leather outfits.
I hadn’t thought about that all-star line up for a long time, until I found myself at a Loud Women event earlier this summer, desperately wanting to join the all-woman rock band, Cryptic Street.
For any rock 'n' roll fan, or anyone who just appreciates strong female vocals, you should definitely check out the all-female, all-feminist band from Malta.
The band, along with other kick ass female-lead rock bands – Muffin Heads and Vertigo Rider — came together for a night dedicated to Loud Women, and it was awesome.
Cryptic Street's petite lead performer, Leona, was born for the stage…
Every song she sang had enough energy to get any room jumping. Her fiery performance came with energetic high kicks and perfectly formed jumps. It was astonishing to see — especially as she ended every performance with a "thank you" and a coy smile.
Janelle, the lead guitarist, had a personality to match her crazy guitar skills. Leanne on bass played it cool, oozing confidence, while drummer, Michelle, kept her steady beats at play all night long, keeping the band in check.
A sweet combination of my pre-teen dreams and adult values, Cryptic Street are a feminist rock band — with added really cool hair. Get them in your ears.
Be sure to find these ladies on Spotify. Follow them on Instagram @crypticstreet 🎶
