The Queen of Funk talks to us about her upcoming show at Club Skirts The Dinah.
With an impressive recording career that spans over three decades, Chaka Khan has sold over 200 million records worldwide, scored 8 Platinum Albums, half a dozen Gold records, snatched three #1 US singles on the Billboard charts, sold-out concerts around the world, received 10 Grammy Award wins, four American Music Awards nominations, a BET Lifetime Achievement Award, a Soul Train Legends Award, a Diamond Life Award for Excellence by the International Association of African-American Music (IAAAM), and now a 2012 nomination for induction into the Rock’N Roll Hall of Fame. She has worked with everyone from Stevie Wonder to Prince and Miles David. She says of her career path, “My ultimate career achievement to date was working with Miles Davis. However, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nomination was a huge honor.” We caught up with Chaka for a lezzie lightning round, here's what she had to say:
How does it feel to be headlining the biggest lesbian event in the world years after you began your career and having performed in many stadiums/arenas around the world? It’s fabulous.
My gay and lesbian fans have always been there for me. They are my most loyal. I know we’re going to have a wonderful time!
Is there a current rapper and/or pop artist you would like to collaborate with?
Amy Winehouse was my choice.
“I’m Every Woman” is certainly the song for The Dinah. It seems like the perfect match with a women empowerment message.
Indeed, that’s what it’s about. We are powerful-more than we know…
Do you have a girl crush? And if so, who is it?
Not at the moment!
What can audiences expect from the show?
I promise them an awesome show!
Khan will be performing themed party called “The Dinah Goes To Rio” on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at The Convention Center, which is the largest concert venue in Palm Springs. Khan promised that she’ll be giving us an awesome show but is staying tight-lipped on what we can expect.
