Flower Power

How the orchid provides an opportunity for women to break the cycle of addiction and enjoy healthy, contented and productive lives.

One of the most exotic and delicate flowering plants now has a special role for women struggling with addiction. This beautiful bloom, which itself requires care in order to flourish, is now incorporated into a groundbreaking program known as “relational growth.”

Women often have special needs that are overlooked by traditional recovery programs. But the Orchid Recovery Center allows residents to leverage the progressive method of relational growth to heal quickly and more completely. The facility enables women to help other women with an environment of trust and safety.

The Orchid Recovery Center, a women-only drug and alcohol rehab facility in South Florida, provides holistic healing for women dealing with drug and alcohol addictions in order to strengthen body, mind and spirit.

Orchid was founded to meet the unique needs of women that were not being addressed by the recovery community, focusing on the different needs women experience physically, emotionally and spiritually as they seek treatment to overcome addiction and trauma.

For example, women addicts often have more guilt, shame and other mental health issues than men. They are also less likely to seek treatment due to social stigma.

Women’s addiction problems are often linked to traumatic triggers such as physical, emotional, verbal or sexual abuse. These can cause chemical dependency and bad life choices.

Orchid utilizes holistic healing programs developed by Dr. Karen Dodge, known as “relational growth,” which found that women overcome addiction faster and more completely when they are supported by a community of other women who are experiencing the same issues and facing the same challenges related to alcohol or drug addiction.

Women help other women heal and expert counselors and therapists facilitate holistic treatment programs made specifically for women to improve their lives.

Orchid includes conscious eating, regular exercise and spiritual practice such as yoga therapy, meditation and Twelve Step meetings, in a calm and aesthetically appealing environment.

Due to the success of the Orchid’s unique holistic treatment programs, the organization has grown from 22 beds to a 40-bed facility. Orchid is planning for future growth with the addition of 20 more beds.
