Raindance Film Festival Release Their Official Trailer And Poster For 2018!

We wanted to make it from the perspective of characters who are very rarely represented in the medium of film

Directed by Hector Valdez, the inspiration behind this year’s Raindance Film Festival trailer are the young “buzos” (scavengers), who make a living by looking for things of value to resell or recycle by scavenging through rubbish landfills in Valdez’ home country of the Dominican Republic.

Valdez won the Film of the Festival Award at last year’s Festival for his feature, Peaches.

“When I first started brainstorming ideas for the trailer, all I knew was that I also wanted to make it from the perspective of characters who are very rarely, if not at all, represented in the medium of film and have a strong female lead,” explains Valdez.

“We took the festival’s famous tagline of ‘Discover. Be discovered’ and give it a literal spin.

“The group of children find ‘treasure’ in the form of an old film projector in the distant future and discover the medium of film, or storytelling.”

The trio of posters has been designed by Robyn Larkin, Head of Festival Design for Raindance and Creative Director of design agency Bobo, who specialise in creating theatrical campaigns and poster artwork.

A champion of independent cinema around the world, the Raindance Film Festival is the largest of its kind in Europe. It showcases feature, documentary and short films, music videos, web series and virtual reality experiences …and you should probably check it out.
