“Luddite” is Tracy City’s second single and music video released
It’s is an anti-technology anthem: a headbangin blues stomp crossed with riot grrrl snarl and Iggy Pop attitude.
Singer Katrina del Mar’s lyrics “I’m a Luddite, I don’t log on” tread the line between earnestness and humor; dragging a riff across centuries from the dawn of the Industrial Revolution to today’s distrust and malaise of pervasive, invasive screen culture.
Tracy City, invoking the revolutionary 18th century weavers who intentionally destroyed machines that would put them out of work, have created a contemporary character who’s a fugitive from the screen in her return to a life of embodied, pleasurable, physical primacy: IRL.”
A New York City Band fronted by award-winning downtown photographer and filmmaker Katrina del Mar, with guitar and vocals by Monica Falcone (Sit n Spin, Screamalong with Billy, Tammy Faye Starlite), on drums Genny Slag (Hooray for Goodbye, Pank Shovel, Slag), and on bass Liz Velic (Hekla, Fabulous Disaster, Lady Unluck).
Tracy City is both a fictional band in an experimental feature film screenplay, and also a very real trash rock lesbian presence in present day hyper-gentrified New York City, produced by legendary NYHC producer Don Fury (Agnostic Front, Gorilla Biscuits).
