Web Series: Dyke Central

Dyke Central

Series co-creator Florencia Manóvil produced and directed the LGBTQ series “Dyke Central,” a dramedy about a group of queer friends living in Oakland, as a response to the lack of representation of queer women of color in the mainstream media.

The show centers primarily on three queer women of color who live together in a house that they fondly call Dyke Central.

“Dyke Central” has received high praise from the queer community and was named as a top lesbian series to watch by many publications including Curve Magazine, Bitch Magazine, BuzzFeed, AfterEllen, and Fusion.

One of the main reasons for its success is the inclusive, diverse representation of queer life, including plot lines that deal with mental health, substance abuse, consent and domestic violence.

The cast includes Rain Dove, the androgynous model famous for breaking down the gender binary (Cosmopolitan and Vogue), Giovannie Espiritu (ER, Bones, Gilmore Girls), Dalia Ali Rajah (Scandal, NCIS, How to Get Away with Murder), D’Lo, a Tamil comedian and trans-activist (Transparent, Mr. Robot, Sense 8), and Mahasin Munir (Sense 8).
