Celebrate National Coming Out Day With The Lesbian Culture Club

Lesbian culture for everyone!

The Lesbian Culture Club has partnered with LAWN and pillars of lesbian entertainment to celebrate National Coming Out Day. Rally for the preservation of lesbian spaces and places with comedy, music, pathos, spoken word, knife-juggling, and a hosted bar!

In support of the Los Angeles LGBT Center’s Audre Lorde Health Program and other Center programs and services for women and girls, this lesbian culture is for all audiences.

On October 11 at the Los Angeles LGBT Center, The Lesbian Culture Club will produce its first show. Showcasing comedy and storytelling by some of LA’s prominent lesbian entertainers, it will include a bit of knife juggling because, why not?

Gay women’s spaces and places are disappearing faster than kittens at a lesbian pet adoption fair. In the past few years, San Francisco lost its last women’s bar. LA has numerous gay bars and eateries, but none that cater exclusively to lesbians. AfterEllen.com recently ceased normal operations. What’s a gay girl to do?

The Lesbian Culture Club was born to address this decline. Founder (and filmmaker) Anna Margarita Albelo aka La Chocha saw an opportunity to create an event that would playfully and irreverently bring her community together to celebrate the lesbian experience, and make it inclusive and available to everyone.

There are plans to make The Lesbian Culture Club a regular event series in 2017, highlighting performance, music, literature, film, art and photography to unite our community and showcase queer talent.

As of now, the schedule includes lesbian luminaries Trish Bendix, Gloria Bigelow, Pat Branch, Lianna Carrera, Page Hurwitz, Amanda-Faye Jimenez, Melissa Kaplan, Karman Kregloe, Bridget McManus, Whitney Mixter, Sandra Valls, and Laura Zak.

Admission is $10 and doors open at 7pm with a hosted bar and show beginning at 8pm.
