The 32nd Outfest Los Angeles Film Festival presents the latest lesbian releases.
Outfest announces the complete line-up for the 32nd annual Los Angeles LGBT film festival from July 10th-20th.
It’s only fairly recently that cinema with LGBT subject matter has won Academy Awards and entered mainstream consciousness: think of Boys Don’t Cry, Monster, or TransAmerica. But can we truly say that we have a category or genre such as “LGBT cinema”? One place to find an abundant amount of LGBT films is the film festival circuit.
The Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization known as Outfest promotes equality by creating and sharing LGBT stories onscreen and they have just announced the line-up for this year’s LGBT film festival. This year, the festival is playing host to a wide range of films that include an extensive list of notable actors such as Robin Williams, Kathy Baker, Liv Tyler, Matt Bomer, Mary-Louise Parker and many more.
Writer/director Marina Rice Bader (executive producer of Elena Undone, A Perfect Ending) will make her directorial debut at Outfest with the world premiere of her feature film Anatomy of a Love Seen. For the eager lesbian film enthusiasts,Anatomy of a Love Seen stars Hollywood newcomers Sharon Hinnendael, Jill Evyn and Constance Brenneman.
This film within a film explores love in all its painful and messy glory. The story takes us back six months, when Zoe (Sharon Hinnendael) and Mal (Jill Evyn) fall for each other at exactly the same moment in time while filming a love scene.
After five blissful months together Zoe is decimated when Mal walks away. Three miserable weeks later, a very lucrative network broadcast deal is in the works with only one request…re-shoot the love scene. Welcome to the set.
Along with Anatomy of a Love Seen, the line-up for Outfest is sure to bring a little something for everyone to L.A.—even newcomers.OutSet Shorts is a screening of five short films written, produced and directed by a new generation of storytellers, the 2014 graduates of OutSet, the Young Filmmakers Project from LifeWorks and Outfest, created to empower and educate LGBTQ youth to tell their stories through film.
“In the year following major civil rights victories across the country, Outfest 2014 pays tribute to the artists and the activists who refused to play nice and color inside the lines. The films in this festival remind us that artists lead the charge for a better world,” says Director of Programming, Kristin Pepe.
Outfest Los Angeles 2014 will open with Susanna Fogel’s Life Partnerson July 10. The festival closes on Sunday, July 20, with Jack Plotnick’s Space Station 76.
