Why We Can’t Get Enough of Seeking Simone

Stalkers, sex, Buffy and online dating, what’s not to love about this out of the closet web series.

Why We Can’t Get Enough of Seeking Simone

For those of you not already hooked on Seeking Simone this highly addictive lesbian web series revolves around the online dating life of Simone Selkin. Having recently moved from Vancouver to Toronto, Simone is thrust into the dating world by her best friend Audrey—and lesbian drama and hilarity ensues.

Clocking in at around nine minutes per episode Seeking Simone is perfectly bite sized entertainment. Brief, witty and amazingly awkward bites of humor, the series is true to their tagline: Online dating has never been so gay. And with lines like, “I love beavers. Beavers love me. There’s a connection. OK, I’m a muncher. You didn’t know that, but now you do.” It’s hard not to want to get in on the fun.

Returning for its sophomore season, the series picks up where season one left off. Will Simone be killed off from CSIS: ForensicSWAT? Will she screw up or be screwed by her next online date?

While we’re not prepared to give anything away co-creator and Seeking Simone star Renee Olbert did offer this exciting tid bit on what to expect in season two in her interview with SheWired: “Simone does see some action this year. And by action…well, I think you know what I mean. But in case I’m not being clear, I mean ACTION.”

Olbert, an admitted Buffy fanatic (she recently tweeted, “‘What is your childhood trauma?’ Yet another reason why I love Buffy. That’s right people, I’m starting at the beginning. Again.”) brings in her real life geek passions into the show, which makes for a show rich with geeky lesbian humor. How many references to Tara and Willow fan fiction can you count? Did you see the Buffy shrine? Is it as big as your Buffy shrine? (sounds like a good drinking game to us.)

So, what do we have to look forward to this season? Stalkers, The L Word, a possible longer-term love interest, sex, more Buffy and crazy online dating shenanigans. With a list like that, how can you not watch?

Episode one and two of season two are available for your viewing pleasure at seekingsimone.com. Watch the trailer for season two below.

OMG! Thank you for this article! I felt compelled to immediately start watching the show after reading this article. I just watched ALL of Season One and what has come out for Season Two! I am a new fan and super addict of Seeking Simone! I absolutely knew I'd love it for the Buffy references (whose shrine is bigger? drinking contest indeed Ms. Minero!) but the beaver comment??? LMAO This show is HILARIOUS, relevant and the characters are just so spunky and refreshing. I'm in love! I am so stoked for Episode 3!!!

@Marvelous M - nobody can resist 9 bite sized minutes of geeky lesbian humor. Not even heartless Voldemort or souless Spike. Not even Sauron, the notoriously evil maker of the one ring to rule them all. Everybody from 5-year old children to 90-year old grandparents would love to munch on some geeky lesbian humor. (There is some sexual content, and perhaps some scary halloween makeup in one episode — the five-year olds can cover their eyes.)

@Miss LovelyClaude - My shrine is bigger, and yes, drinking contests. If you're a fan of the drinking game Kings, and you like the waterfall effect, then you should take a drink every time you see a lesbian. ;) You'll be on cloud nine by the end of one episode. :) And I too am stoked for episode 3 of season two!
