The Real Deal

The Real Deal

I like to consider myself one part girly girl and one part adventure girl. So, I am really excited to introduce myself as the new voice of Glamour Puss, where I plan to talk about all things sparkly, from fashion to beauty, to whatever else sets off my glam meter.

Today I have to tell you about this mascara that I was over the moon to discover. I had great eyelashes as a kid. So much so that people often asked if they were fake.

But lately they’ve been less than stellar. They seem flat almost and some of them veer off to one side or another and clump together. Yuck.

I thought at first that an eyelash perm was what I needed. But that failed miserably. They looked fabulous when I left the salon. And by the time I got back home? Like they had never been permed at all.

My next stop was Sephora to see if someone there might have some advice. And, of course, they did. They suggested a mascara called (go figure!) “They’re Real!” It’s made by Benefit, one of my beauty brands.

(I also bought an eyelash curler that heats up. But I haven’t tried it yet. More on that when I figure out how the damn thing works!)

Anyway, back to the mascara.  I put it on and I was shocked. My eyelashes looked totally different.

They curled up and out. They separated. And they looked longer and thicker than I had seen them look in a very long time. Plus, the volume and lengthening and curl  lasted all day.

It has a super cool brush that has a rounded tip with bristles on it and it is incredibly thick. Thick enough to be tough to get off. But it’s a small price to pay. There’s just something about that brush and that formula that makes it really do its job.

I do think following their instructions for putting it on is key as well:

Position wand horizontally & wiggle brush from side to side, base to tip, to achieve maximum volume, length & lift. Hold wand vertically & stroke upward to curl & separate. Layer generously as desired.

One day when I was wearing it, I went to get a facial. As the esthetician started to work she said, “Oh, I better not use steam. You have on false lashes, right?”

I beamed and batted my eyes a little at the pretty face inches above mine. “Nope,” I said. “They’re Real.”
