Big Crowed at Big Gay Day 2017

Big Gay Day, one of Australia’s favourite and welcoming street festivals is back for 2017 with a full entertainment line-up and charitable beneficiaries.

This year marks an evolution for Queensland’s largest LGBT Festival’s 17th year of fun, entertainment and generous contributions to the LGBTI community.

Big Gay Day 2017 marks the third time The Wickham has played host to an event of this size since its reopening. With a VIP area in prime position side of the stage, street food, and three different entertainment zones, this year will build on the 40,000 strong crowds that have passed through The Wickham’s gates since the festival’s start in 2001.

The Wickham General Manager Lauren Spear said this year’s party is set to continue the evolution of one of the most inclusive and welcoming events on the summer festival calendar.

“This is a great opportunity for The Wickham to showcase to the broader community how welcoming and inclusive Big Gay Day has become in its 17 year history,” Ms. Spear said.

The VIP area will feature meet and greets with select headlining acts, complimentary beverage on arrival, gourmet BBQ and prime viewing position from an elevated side of stage private area. There are only 200 VIP tickets available! Street food will be on offer and include steamed buns, Mexican dishes, chips, burgers, gourmet hot dogs, and pizzas to round out the celebration of sun, food and drinks.

The amazing line-up of international acts, local artists, and DJs include Sharon Needles, Yolanda Be Cool, Nat Conway, Ellen Reed, SexShooters, DJ Citizen Jane, Sveta, Stee Louder, Mega Drag, Peyton, Swagger DJs, Harry K, Tina Bikki, Vollie la Vont, Miss Synthetique, and special guest host Jan van de Stool.

Ms. Spear highlights that “There’s something for everyone with a variety of entertainment spaces, electric atmosphere and great entertainment drawn from a broad range of styles.”

Continuing its commitment, The Wickham will contribute 25 per cent of Big Gay Day’s profits to the collective causes of nominated community charities. This year, there will be an increased commitment to charitable contributions with two new initiatives to assist the LGBTI community.

The Wickham will host four ‘karma keg’ events in the lead up to Big Gay Day.

The entire sales for the kegs will be donated to the charity partners. The Wickham will also donate 50 community tickets per charity to ensure that the event is accessible to those in the LGBT community that may be experiencing hardship and who access the many support services that received event donations.

This year, the community groups chosen are Queensland AIDS Council, Australian Transgender Support Association of Queensland, Open Doors Youth Service, and Wendybird.

Ms. Spear added, “You won’t find another festival with this quality and variety of acts over ten hours for this price anywhere else that also gives a portion of their profits to charity.”

Only pre-purchased tickets can guarantee entry, with general admission available for $40 plus booking fees and VIP tickets going at $100 plus booking fees.
