Since 2018, a group of people, who wanted Gilbert’s dream to reach its potential, have been working towards having another film festival.

The Committee succeeded in having a great festival in 2019, featuring the festival premier of “The Whistle”, a documentary by director Storm Miguel Florez. The film is a story of 1970s and 80s lesbian youth in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The Festival will be held annually thereafter on the third weekend of September.

The 2020 Festival dates are Thursday September 17^th thru Saturday September 19^th.  

The Festival has the following categories:

• feature film (60 minutes or longer), short film (10 to 60 minutes long),
• feature documentary (60 minutes or longer),
• short documentary (10 to 60 minutes long),
• animation short (animation that is less than 10 minutes long),
• animation reel (a single or group of animations written or directed by the same person 10 to 60 minutes long),
• animation feature (an animated film 60 minutes or longer),
• web series (10 minutes or longer),
• and music video (less than 10 minutes long).

All films must have an LGBTQIA focus or deal with sexual orientation or gender identity issues. We are offering student discounts on submissions on our FilmFreeway site.

The call for entries opened April 1^st. The early deadline for submissions is May 1^st. The regular deadline for submissions is June 1^st. Finally, the late deadline for submissions is July 1^st. Winners will be notified by August 1^st.

We are also looking for a few good jurors. Those interested can either be a programmer or a judge. A programmer assists the Committee in choosing movies for the festival. A judge assists the Committee in choosing the winners.
