Meet the Charmed reboot’s newest (lesbian) sister

Melonie Diaz confirmed as first of the three sisters 🔮

We're all enjoying a little bit of a 90s comeback at the moment, aren't we? And the Charmed reboot is just one gem to have come out of it all.

Original sisters Paige, Piper and Phoebe from the original series

Having confirmed a brand new, "feminist" remake of the hit 90s show was indeed on the cards earlier this year – much to the disapproval of the show's original cast members – the American network CW has now confirmed who's to play the first of its three modern, magical sisters.

Fruitvale Station's Melonie Diaz will play the part of Mel, one of the three sisters, and will also identify as a lesbian. Mel's character will also have a girlfriend – a detective currently named Soo Jin – who is yet to be cast.

According to Digital Spy, our Mel is hellbent on "repressing her own ability to manipulate time after being involved in a tragic accident".

The reboot, which is being written by Jane the Virgin writers Jessica O'Toole and Amy Rardin, is set to be a: "fierce, funny, feminist reboot of the original series centered on three sisters in a college town who discover they are witches.

"Between vanquishing supernatural demons, tearing down the patriarchy, and maintaining familial bonds, a witch's work is never done."

What's not to like?

Still, Mel's onscreen sisters Macy and Madison are yet to be announced meaning we're all going to have to wait just that little bit longer before we get to see the full Power Of Three.

Let's just hope the special effects are as good as they were in the late 90s, early noughties…
