A huge rainbow appeared as if on cue in the storm-swept March skies of Tucson as Muffin Spencer-Devlin crossed the eighteenth green to complete her first round of golf since going public as a lesbian. It was the first time any LPGA golfer had openly declared herself a lesbian. Both the Lesbian News and Sports Illustrated ran in-depth stories -- the world's first documented glimpse of lesbianism in the LPGA. That was nearly a year ago. Since then Devlin has grand-marshaled the Orange County Pride Parade, been a spokesperson for the Human Rights Campaign and played in several celebrity golf tournaments. When asked what the most significant change has been to her life since coming out professionally, Muffin grinned warmly and said, "It's changed for me out here. Having [her partner] Lynda drop me off at the golf course in the morning and giving her a hug and a kiss, I don't even think about looking over my shoulder."
