INFO: http://www.girlfestbayarea.org/ Nearly a month after Pride festivities have died down, Bay Area Babes will get another chance to celebrate at the 2nd Annual GiRL FeST Bay Area. This year’s lineup is jam-packed with a variety of music, poetry, and other spoken-word gems that should draw an equally diverse crowd—after all, this is the Bay Area—with performances by actress Amber Tamblyn, dyke hip-hop phenoms God-des & She, Citizen Fury and much, much more. Scheduled poetry readings and performances by spoken-word artists such as Ashley Atoms, Ali Wong, Bushra Rehman and Micia Mosely will address different aspects of the female experience. Beyond music, the five-day fest will stay true to its female empowerment roots by offering myriad workshops on topics ranging from Media Literacy to Sexual-Violence Prevention and Anti-Homophobia for Youth. Also, be sure to check out the closing “Women Re-Birthing Justice”-themed concert on Sunday at Dolores Park. The final fanfare is brimming over with Bay Area natives such as Oakland-based Femi and SF-based Melina Jones, who prove that even in July, Bay Area gals have a lot to take pride in.
