Vol. 17#1
Worse case scenario is that it’s afternoon on Valentine’s and you’re sitting around alone empty-handed and fully-clothed. Perhaps, you think, a surprise is on its way tonight. Whatever your romantic circumstance may be, there is plenty of love, lust and everything in between to go around, and what a better way to put cupid to work than to be in all the right places with you and your babe, or at least in the radar of a potential one. What’s with the waiting?
Sweethearts for the Arts’ “Love and Compassion” - Boston Art Tours
Stir inner passions and get some serious knowledge on with an art tour for gay and lesbian couples at the Boston Museum of Modern Arts. Art historian, Marina Veronica will assume cupid’s helper and she will guide you and your valentine through a number of rooms and pieces of art “directed to different forms of sexuality.” The queer package is a fresh addition to this four-year run of Sweethearts for the Arts. Be the first to spark your valentine’s libido for art and other sakes. Singles, couples, seasoned group tours available and all welcome.

Good thing the Nice Jewish Girls Gone Bad is town. This troupe promises to deliver comedy, cabaret, music, and spoken word from a talented cast, some who have appeared on Comedy Central, HBO and MTV. Pre-conceived notions and conventions are deconstructed through the “tales told by the gals who learned how to smoke at Hebrew school, got drunk at their Bat-misvahs and would rather have more schtuppa than the chuppah.” This riot is a good match to any anti-Valentine sentiments you may have. And you, with or without a date, get to watch nice turned naughty Jewish girls go near naked.

It’s all about V-Day: Valentines, Vagina and Victory. Blow your date’s mind (and your’s too) with representations of how humans can prescribe meaning and action to the vagina, — some of which are gravely serious, some affirming, but in the end, this is Eve Ensler’s theatrical celebratory ode to the vagina. And yes, it has urked a number of feminists. But at least at least you know that your two are in store for a wheel-turning conversation during the car ride home.
