Golden Threads Eighteen years ago, Christine Burton, then age seventy-two, sent an ad to a local lesbian networking service. Less than a week later her application was returned with a note: "Unless you made a mistake about your date of birth, we can't do anything for you. Nobody is looking for lesbians older than fifty." At that moment Burton promised herself she would find love -- for herself and for other older lesbians.
Eight years later, after selling the business she started at age sixty-six, Burton launched Golden Threads, a quarterly newsletter for lesbians over fifty who want to correspond with each other. Their motto? "You're never too old to love or to be loved." Golden Threads has brought together more than sixteen hundred lesbians from around the world with newsletter containing as many as one hundred and twenty notices. Burton recently celebrated her ninetieth birthday; we celebrate the gift she has given lesbians everywhere. Golden Threads, PO Box 65, Richford VT 05476.
