Sparkle release charity single for #TDoR17

Charity single for Trans Day of Remembrance 2017

The national transgender charity, Sparkle, have released a charity single ahead of Trans Day of Remembrance on Monday 20 November.

The project is a collaboration between trans vocalists T Party London and producer Mx-Ze, who recorded the single We 2 R 1, which they describe as “a call to arms” and “a cry for understanding and acceptance of the trans community”.

Every year, hundreds of trans people throughout the world are murdered due to their gender identity or take their own lives to end their suffering. Research published by Stonewall in June this year reveals that eight out of 10 young trans people have self-harmed and almost half have attempted to kill themselves in the UK. In 2016, 27 transgender people were killed in the United States – nearly all of them were transgender women of colour.

T Party London are Farrah Mills, Antonia Wood, and Viktor Victoria, and are the winning vocal group from this year’s Arts Council England-supported Sparkle Music Awards.

Producer Mx-Ze said: “I started this initiative to raise awareness of the terrible things that are happening to innocent trans and non-binary people throughout the world. Cold-blooded murder, and transphobic hatred and violence have no place in civilised society.

"By supporting We 2 R 1, you’re also supporting equality, and saying a big no to intolerance and bigotry of any kind.”

Transgender Day of Remembrance is an annual global event to remember those lost and to say to those who have died needlessly and are often buried without formal identification, or as their preferred gender, that they were known to us. Funds raised from downloading the single will be used to support trans charities, and a percentage of profits will be donated to Transgender Europe’s Trans Murder Monitoring Project.

We 2 R 1 is available to pre-order now and will be released as a digital download on Transgender Day of Remembrance, 20 November 2017
