Even a Bookgeek loves her comfort reads and a well-done romance is something I always welcome. "Mounting Danger" is one of those delicious romances I have come to expect and eagerly await from Karis Walsh, who just won a Rainbow Award for her romance “Sea Glass Inn”. Though "Mounting Danger" revolves around horses and horse-women-ship, this book is enjoyable for any reader with a love for nature and sweet romance, a romance where the tension between the main characters is quickly growing and their unexpected kisses are really hot.
Meet Sergeant Rachel Bryce who has been an outcast on the Tacoma police force. When she is put in charge of the new mounted division it looks like she will most certainly fail. But Callan Langford, a crack polo player set on stardom literally from the cradle, is asked to help her train the horses and their riders who are less than stellar. Both are not exactly thrilled to say the least at the start, but their adversaries have to learn that you don't mess with strong women.
Karis Walsh easily masters the most difficult pitfall of a traditional romance. Though she fully delivers on the promise of a romance, she manages at the same time to avoid the "rut". You'll find a very dense, delightful romance with no slack filled with great characters on the human as well as on the animal side and a gripping story arch. Karis' love for horses and for the Pacific Northwest is palpable throughout and adds a wonderful flavor to the story: The beauty of the oceanside at Tacoma, the smell of horses, the dogs, the excitement of Polo, the horses themselves (I am secretly in love with Bandit), the sounds of the forest. A most enjoyable read for cold winter days and nights.
