Sweet Cruise Winner Announced

Over 1,600 women entered our Sweet Cruise vacation giveaway last summer. And here’s our winner!

When Nora Lopez first received an email from Sweet informing her that she had won a Caribbean cruise, she thought it was too good to be true. Cruz, a microbiology graduate student, was amazed to find out that it was no hoax.

“I’m most excited about getting out of the United States and getting to see a different part of the world,” she said. Entrees were collected from Pride events around the country as well as through Curve’s website last summer. Lopez, who has never been on a cruise, was picked randomly from over 1,600 entries. The Sweet Caribbean Cruise, which will depart from New Orleans on Nov. 8, lasts for a week and during which Lopez will visit four hot destinations including Costa Maya, Mexico, Belize City, Belize, Roatan, Honduras and Cozumel, Mexico on the Norwegian Spirit, a luxury liner that can accommodate nearly 2,000 passengers.

“These are amazing scuba diving and snorkeling, white sand beach destinations," said Shannon Wentworth, chief executive officer and founding partner. “This is the largest lesbian cruise ever, ever, ever.”

After a day of holding down a hammock, swimming laps around the poolside bar or exploring historical ruins the partying will begin. Club Skirts will be hosting nightly events featuring all-star women DJ’s from around the country. If you’ve worn out your dancing shoes there will be plenty of other entertainment options including Comedians Suzanne Westenhoefer and Erin Roley and musicians Jen Foster and Edie Carey.

“My favorite is probably the Champagne and Bubbles foam party, with eco and sea friendly foam. It’s a guilt free experience,” said Wentworth. The eco-friendly Sweet has the potential to revolutionize Sapphic sea faring as part of their mission is a commitment to community improvement and green business practices. To that end, there will be a pre-cruise volunteer opportunity with the aim of planting 10,000 trees in the ailing wetlands surrounding New Orleans.
