“We were intrigued by the idea of using this ancient Scandinavian legend to explore the dynamic of a group of women on their own, provided the opportunity to develop their own autonomous society--” says director Koivisto, “a story in which the women drive the plot, and fight the battles, and in which the male character exists in a romantic and reactive position. I have been thrilled by the strength, complexity, and distinct moral ambiguity of the female characters in this piece, and by the freedom to develop a piece that is both distinctly female, and also unlike anything resembling conventional ‘femininity’.”
