Ruby Rose is removing her hand tattoos, and pissing off black people

They are unrelated yet related. Ruby Rose is the face of Urban Decay. Urban Decay is releasing a new collection, a collaboration with the iconic black artist Basquiat. At the Urban Decay x Basquiat launch, Rose told Cosmo, "I’m in the process of getting a few removed that get in the way of acting, because you can cover everything with makeup, but getting the creases and corners on hands can be difficult. It’s been tough…. But what we’ve been doing is covering them and putting new ones on, which has been fun as well."

Ok. Now to the juicy bit. According to Paper, black twitter is not pleased to see a black model being passed over as the face of Basquiat’s foray into makeup. The late Jean-Michel Basquiat was an underground graffiti artist whose work harshly criticized American consumerism. Many fans wonder if he would approve of a high-end makeup line shilled by a white model bearing his name. Hmm.

Sara Ramirez beefs with Dustin Lance Black over ‘When We Rise’ and bisexual invisibility

Sara Ramirez, who came out as bisexual only last year and has since appointed herself the voice of all oppressed bisexuals on social media, has found yet another gay show to criticize. This time it’s When We Rise, ABC’s miniseries about gay people overcoming obstacles in the 1970s. On March 13 Ramirez tweeted:

Dustin Lance Black, the screenwriter behind When We Rise, politely rebutted.

Black continued, claiming that the bi people portrayed in When We Rise didn’t identify as bisexual in the 1970s when the show was set. “The show is based on real, living people,” he tweeted. “If you do not like how they defined themselves back then, you can take it up with them.” Black and Ramirez eventually made peace by both reiterating how much they respect each other and Ramirez suggesting they continue the conversation in private. That’s no fun!

Cara Delevingne wrote a novel, let's reflect on that

via INSTAGRAM

She took to Instagram to announce her upcoming novel, “Mirror Mirror,” a coming of age story about three teen girls. Just like Kendall and Kylie wrote those dystopian teen fantasy books! I love Cara but let’s be very clear: this was written by a ghost to capitalize on Cara’s fame with YA literature. You know it. I know it. Let’s not pretend, k?

Tegan and Sara continue to ever-so-gently diss lack of diversity

In an interview with Q Magazine, the Canadian pop stars mildly ribbed the patriarchy. Tegan wondered aloud, “Where's the Sam Smith or Troye Sivan of lesbians? It doesn't have to be us. Good Lord, we'd get out of the fucking way." Sara chimed in, saying "I think Closer is the closest an out lesbian has had to mainstream success."

When the interviewer brought up St. Vincent, Cara Delevingne, and Kristen Stewart, the three most successful queer women in entertainment. Sara was quick to point out the obvious. "It's great to see Kristen Stewart, St. Vincent and Cara Delevingne but they all work in the same world," she said. "They're all very beautiful, they're all white, they all fit a certain kind of femme identity. Women of colour who are lesbians? Forget about it. Trans guys and women of colour? Forget about it.”

So true. I would go farther and point out that none of those women publicly identify as lesbians. Kristen Stewart may have called herself “so gay” on SNL, but she’s also talked about being bisexual. St. Vincent is in the “no label” camp and Cara Delevingne is bisexual. While it’s great that queer and bisexual women are thriving in young Hollywood, it’s telling that the male-run industry does not extend the same warm welcome to lesbians. The interview ended on a positive note, with Tegan saying “We feel progress for sure. The deep desire to categorise and define us has subsided. Some of the blatant homophobia and misogyny that we experienced would never happen now.”

I’d also like to note that the picture above was recently taken by Tegan’s ex-girlfriend Lindsey Byrnes. Interesting.
