The Wright Stuff

She's Electric is first and foremost a music blog, but when word spread about the Self Evident Truths project, it struck us as being hugely important. iO Tillett Wright is a rock star in her own right.

A Glimpse of An Horse

A Glimpse of An Horse

An Horse could possibly be the most unassuming rock band in history. Not the type to destroy hotel rooms and throw back bottles of Jack, Damon Cox and Kate Cooper are more inclined to find a local swimming hole or watch a movie on AMC after shows. “We’re the cleanest-living rock band,” Cooper proudly claims. The recent release of Walls, the follow up to 2009’s Rearrange Beds, has proven that An Horse is a band meant for not only the big time, but also the long-term. Critically acclaimed and catchy as hell, Walls finds the band a little older, a little wiser and as earnest as ever.Catching up with Cox and Cooper in the dingy basement of a Minneapolis venue, it is clear that the hard working duo is more than paying their dues.“We’ve been on tour since...

A Quickee With Raimy Rosenduft

A Quickee With Raimy Rosenduft

We here at She's Electric (that'd be Melany and Janelle) are music fanatics. We met in the name of music. No, seriously. I (Janelle) was touring with Minneapolis based Sick of Sarah and Melany was covering the band for a music blog she writes for Curve magazine (that'd be this one). So, in between interviewing the artists we love, we also, from time to time, like to tune-in to like-minded music heads for what's spinning in their neck of the woods. Raimy Rosenduft is a writer, producer and music enthusiast, sidekick to comedian Liz Feldman and accidental health care activist. We touched base with Rosenduft and had her fill us in on her love of music, what makes her tick and what's currently on repeat in her world. How did you and music hook up?My Mom sang to us all the time,...

Catching up with Uh Huh Her

Catching up with Uh Huh Her

Photo: Janelle Sorenson "Five Hour Energy drinks and Red Bulls, I feel awesome," declares Camila Grey, settling onto the leather seat of a white stretch limousine. After an overnight drive from a show the night before, the sunglasses are less diva and more necessity.“She said she’d be up all night to talk if I needed it,” Grey gestures to Uh Huh Her counterpart Leisha Hailey, who absently flips through a wedding brochure found next to the empty brandy snifter, “But then I get a call saying 'I’m going to bed, but enjoy your ride!'”“Hey! I said ‘be safe’!” Hailey laughs. On the first date they've played together in months, Uh Huh Her wax poetic on music, life and…hippos? "I'll say 'amazing' five times within...

Un-Jaded with Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros

Un-Jaded with Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros

It’s easy to write off psychedelic super group Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros as one of L.A.’s newest musical shticks. With their whimsical prairie garb, dreadlocks and obvious appreciation of a certain herbal substance, the band is easy to stereotype. And while it is true that their lineup includes a former ABC Family star, an American Apparel model and a cadre of west coast scenesters, including former Ima Robot front man, Alex Ebert who now dresses like the next messiah, it may surprise that Edward Sharpe and their free-loving ethos is a Kool-Aid worth drinking. One of two women in the ten person ensemble and the ingénue behind their breakthrough single, “Home” is Jade Castrinos. Channeling Grace Slick at her most affable and Janis Joplin at...

She’s Electric: Staying Gold

Ah, Melissa Etheridge and I. We’ve shared a love of cigarette smoke, a lead guitarist or two and now we’ll be sharing a divorce lawyer. How’s that for randomly tying in some celeb hijinks with my own rock and roll drama? C’est vrai. I’ve been on hiatus for a bit, getting a new city, a new name and new behind-the-scenes dirt on a slew of emerging artists who have kept me entertained with their tales of debauchery and lovemaking. Wow. Did I really write that? I did.In the midst of all the mayhem, I’ve managed to stumble upon a few gems that will leave Curvettes breathless with excitement and hopefully prompt at least a few of you to throw down the suntan lotion, fold-up the beach chair and hit the neighborhood watering hole for the sweet sounds of...
