Start Spreading the News

Every year, my law school sends a group of students to the National LGBT Bar Association’s annual conference and career fair. This means a weekend of hot power dykes, well-dressed gay men, and trans hotties all smashed together in conference rooms eating complimentary continental breakfasts. This year the event was in Brooklyn, NY, home of one of the most delicious lesbian scenes in the country.Needless to say, I was excited. While all my other law school colleagues were researching firms to interview with at the career fair, I was researching places to get laid. With the help of fellow Curve blogger Stephanie Schroeder, I was able to compile an assorted inventory of places to go and people to see. Before I could attempt to go out, I had to look fabulous. First stop was Re/Dress, a...

Two Dates or Not Two Dates, That is the Question

Two Dates or Not Two Dates, That is the Question

When is a date a date? Is meeting for coffee ever a date? Or has “getting coffee” become a whole event separate from dates themselves? Is a sexual escapade always a date? Or can activities that lead to sex be separated also?I once had a girl I’d been sleeping with for two months get upset with me for calling a romantic dinner on Lake Tahoe that I paid for a date. On the other hand, I still laugh at the time a coworker told me our friendly drink after work was her first date with a woman. It was in this confused state of mind that I set up “meetings” with two women in one day. The first, whom I will call Folklorica, I met on an online dating site. I messaged her because we both were in the same town in Mexico at the same time this past summer, even though our...

Small Town Pride

Small Town Pride

Like most things in my all too restful town, Pride is months behind the rest of the country. Instead of celebrating in June, when most of the college town is here, we celebrate in August, the hottest month of the year. In our defense, August is the only time we can hope to not be rained out, so we opt instead to fry while laying in the grass listening to horrible covers of lesbian folk songs. It was here, in that grass, that I met my first potential pride hook-up. She was far from my usual type – young, alternative, partial shaved head—but there was something about her edge that made me want to see just how hard she could get. We sat for awhile with mutual friends, and I enjoyed watching her lip ring move as she laughed harder than my mediocre jokes deserved. As she...

Back in the Harness Again

Back in the Harness Again

For the first time, she wasn’t the reason I was making the winding trek down the Pacific Northwest Coast. It was the reason. She said she would mail it, but I didn’t trust her. It was mine, and I needed it back.Sure, I had other excuses to drive five hours—giant redwoods, camping, time with friends—respectable things to tell my parents. Yet, as I lay shivering around the campfire late at night, the thought of it was what warmed my special insides.I began calling her The Wind years ago for the way she blew in and out of my life. We dated without going on a date, slept together without sleeping, and finally, about a year ago, made it official. Just after our anniversary, it was apparent I needed to blow her away one last time, and with the support of my wonderful...
