Globes, Grammys and Gaga—Oh My!

Regardless of the economic climate, the gifting goes on in Hollywood. As we gear up for the biggest week of the year with this week’s Oscar madness, here’s a sneak peak at the recent swag suites and celebrity lounges that went down in Hollywood at this year’s Globe’s and Grammy’s.

The Word is out

It’s no secret that The Secret Room Events, owned and operated by business partners Amy Boatwright and Rita Branch hosts one of the best celebrity lounges in the city. The longstanding partners hosted an invitation only Golden Globe Gifting Lounge at the dangerously hip and glamorous SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills.

In order to enter the lounge and get in on the goodies, celebs had to make a donation to the African...

Dip in to the spirit-ual side of Belgium

Dip in to the spirit-ual side of Belgium

Lesbian beer aficionados will tell you, one must worship all things Belgian. The little country has a big business with its 125 breweries, over 800 types of beer and approximately 8700 one-offs to choose from. This is no passing fancy as Belgians drink on average 93 liters of beer a year. Safe to say with all that field experience, they know a thing or two about the brew. They should. They’ve been making the frothy beauty since 9,000 BC.

Austrian glassmakers, Reidel make specific and expensive glassware for each wine and spirit designed to enhance aromatics and pleasure to the palette. The same approach is adhered to here as each brewery chooses specific shaped glassware for each beer from various goblets to curvaceous tulips and tall pilsner styled glassware.

Capture the Kiwi Culture and Cuisine

New Zealand has quickly become a can’t miss trip for globetrotting lesbians. Those hobnobbing in the international vintner circles can easily rattle off New Zealand’s premium regions, just as American oenophiles whip out Napa and Sonoma at the drop of a cork. Here are a few Kiwi regions you can casually add in to your next highbrow conversation in between sips and swirls.

Hawkes Bay in the northern island, often referred to as the center of New Zealand’s viticulture is also the oldest region and most known for producing Bordeaux blends, a lovely nod to the old world wines.

Central Otago in the South Island is the world’s southern most wine region. This region is red hot, most known for its Pinot Noirs and a great place to sip and ski. Don’t...

Rock and Roll Zen

For fashion-forward dykes looking for a little rock and roll with your cut and color or a wee bit of Buddha ching with your blowout, then the Kyle Mathis Hairdressing salon in Santa Monica is your sweet spot.

I was told that Kyle Mathis was a Zen like oasis of a salon. I was a bit thrown when I walked in to what appeared to be the set of L.A. Ink. Kyle and his crew were tatted from tip to toe. There was a drum set in the middle of the floor, a few guitars hung from the ceiling with a blood red backdrop dotted with modern art. The über cute Kyle, who looks like he could tour with Tommy Lee, welcomed me, introducing himself. When I mentioned my preconceived notion of the Zen like oasis, he reassured me “This is Rock and...
